Finding help nearby

The directory: cleaners, handymen and co-hosts by ZIP or around a listing, both ways.

The directory is where hosts find help and help finds hosts: cleaners, handymen, inspectors and co-hosts who listed themselves, by ZIP code or around a listing. It works both ways, and only among people who showed intent.

If you need help

  1. Open Find help nearby from the account menu on the website or under More in the app.
  2. Search around one of your listings or a ZIP code, for anyone or for a kind of help, within the distance you choose.
  3. Each result is a first name, a last initial, what they do, the ZIP, the distance, the identity badge, how many listings they serve here, jobs done and their rating. Never an email or a phone.
  4. Invite the one you like. YouAndHost sends the invitation by email, and by text if that is how they asked to be reached; you see their number only if they chose to share it.
  5. Or say a listing is looking for help, for what, and people near it find you.

If you offer help

Under Settings → Directory listing: what you do, the ZIP you work from, how far you travel, a line about yourself, how you want to be reached, and whether a host who invites you may have your number. Then Near you: listings looking for help, and other people like you. Write to them through YouAndHost; they get your message, your card and your email, and nothing of theirs goes back until they answer.

Why the directory exists

A good short-term rental is a team effort, and the team is usually local families who make their living this way. The directory is how they are found and how they find work, in their own town, with their name and their record on it, without anyone handing over a phone number to a stranger. It is the part of YouAndHost built for them.

We do not vet anyone, and the directory says so. What we do is check who the person is: everyone in it has passed the same identity check hosts pass, and the numbers beside them are their record here, not a promise.
